Ann Margaret

This is a good counter balance story to the Jane Fonda " Vietnam " Woman Of The Year story I have received many times in my e-mail.
Ann Margaret

Viet Nam 1966

Richard, (my husband), never really talked a lot about his time in

Viet Nam other than he had been shot by a sniper.
However, he had a rather grainy, 8 x 10 black and white photo he had taken at a USO show of Ann Margaret with Bob Hope
in the background that was one of his treasures.

A few years ago, Ann Margaret was doing a book signing

at a local bookstore. Richard wanted to see if he could get her
to sign the treasured photo so he arrived at the bookstore
at 12 o'clock for the 7:30 signing.

When I got there after work, the line went all the way around

the bookstore, circled the parking lot and disappeared behind
a parking garage. Before her appearance, bookstore employees announced that she would sign only her book and no
memorabilia would be permitted.

Richard was disappointed, but wanted to show her the photo

and let her know how much those shows meant to lonely GI's
so far from home. Ann Margaret came out looking as beautiful
as ever and, as second in line, it was soon Richard's turn.

He presented the book for her signature and then took out the photo.

When he did, there were many shouts from the employees
that she would not sign it. Richard said, "I understand.
I just wanted her to see it."

She took one look at the photo, tears welled up in her

eyes and she said, "This is one of my gentlemen from Viet Nam
and I most certainly will sign his photo. I know what these men did
for their country and I always have time for 'my gentlemen.'"

With that, she pulled Richard across the table and planted a

big kiss on him. She then made quite a to-do about the bravery
of the young men she met over the years, how much she
admired them, and how much she appreciated them There
weren't too many dry eyes among those close enough to hear.
She then posed for pictures and acted as if he were the only one there.

Later at dinner, Richard was very quiet. When I asked if he'd

like to talk about it, my big strong husband broke down in tears.
"That's the first time anyone ever thanked me for
my time in the Army," he said.

That night was a turning point for him. He walked a little

straighter and, for the first time in years, was proud to have
been a Vet. I'll never forget Ann Margaret for her graciousness
and how much that small act of kindness meant to my husband.

I now make it a point to say "Thank you" to every person

I come across who served in our Armed Forces.
Freedom does not come cheap and I am grateful for
all those who have served their country.

If you'd like to pass on this story, feel free to do so.

Perhaps it will help others to become aware of how important it is
to acknowledge the contribution our service people make.

Troops airlifted out of Iraq to face Assad’s forces

Following similar reports by former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds, Israeli intelligence sources confirm that US Special Forces are massing in Jordan on the Syrian border having been transferred from Iraq.

US Special Forces Mass On Syrian Border

On Sunday Edmonds reported that hundreds of foreign troops were witnessed near the Jordanian border village of Al-Mafraq, having moved back and forth between King Hussein Air Base of al-Mafraq and villages adjacent to the Syrian border.

After interviewing an employee in the London-based office of Royal Jordanian Airlines, Nizar Nayouf also reported that, “At least one US aircraft carrying military personnel landed in the Prince Hassan Air base located about 100 km to the east of the city of Al-Mafraq.”

According to Edmonds, the mainstream media has been eager to keep the movement of the troops under wraps, with one journalist from a major publication being told by his editor that there would be no coverage of the story.

The Israeli intelligence outlet DebkaFile has now backed these reports, stating that, “American special forces troops have been diverted to positions in Jordan opposite a Syrian tank concentration building up across the kingdom’s northern border.”

US troops were airlifted out of the Ain al-Assad air base in Iraq to take up positions in Jordan from Thursday onwards, according to the report.

Instead of returning to military bases in Europe or the Persian Gulf, the troops have lined up directly opposite Assad’s forces 10 kilometers from the Syrian border and have constructed “surveillance towers and army posts in the Jordanian villages of Albaej, Zubaydiah and al-Nahdah.”

NATO powers are preparing a new “humanitarian intervention” on the back of disputed reports that the Assad regime has killed 5,000 pro-democracy demonstrators. Skeptical voices have pointed out that, just like Libya, the so-called protesters are in fact militants attempting to overthrow the government in the course of a civil war.

Just as Al-Qaeda terrorists were used to oust Gaddafi, hundreds of Libyan rebels were airlifted into Syria to aid the opposition in carrying out attacks against government forces.

As we reported last week, the United States has deployed a total of three warships to the Middle East, along with several other attack boats, as tensions in the region escalate. Russia has denied reports that warships it sent to Syrian territorial waters last month were for the purpose of discouraging any potential military strike on the country.

US Deploys Yet Another Warship To The Middle East

Three major aircraft carriers will be stationed in troubled region

The United States has deployed yet another warship to the Middle East, meaning that three major aircraft carriers allied with numerous guided-missile destroyer ships are now either already located or are on their way to the troubled region.

According to Stratfor.com’s weekly naval update, a third Nimitz-class supercarrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, has now been deployed to join the U.S. fifth fleet in the Middle East.

A KOMO news report confirms the deployment, noting that 5,000 sailors are on board “headed back to the Middle East where its fighter jets will back up U.S. troops in Afghanistan.” The mission is scheduled to last four months.

The deployment follows last week’s news that the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier, in addition to guided missile destroyers USS Bunker Hill and USS Halsey, are also on their way to the Middle East to join the 5th fleet area of operations. The ships are currently almost half way across the Pacific Ocean on their route through Asian territory.

The warships will join the USS John C. Stennis, which is already stationed just outside Pakistani and Iranian territorial waters. The USS Bataan (LHD-5) Wasp-class amphibious assault ship is also stationed in the region just south of Yemen.

The United States now has a total of five major aircraft carriers deployed around the world, the same number of warships that were in action shortly before the invasion of Iraq in early 2003.

  • A d v e r t i s e m e n t

With tensions running high in relation to Pakistan, Syria and Iran amidst overwhelming speculation of an imminent military campaign in the region, the deployment of three major warships to the Middle East is of extreme significance.

However, the most pressing concern for the U.S. is the fact that Pakistan is maintaining its border blockade to Afghanistan in protest against a NATO air strike last month that killed two dozen Pakistani soldiers. The U.S. has refused to apologize for the incident.

Although the Pentagon claims that the blockade has “no appreciable impact” on military operations in Afghanistan, it is costing the U.S. Air Force $400 dollars in fuel costs for each gallon of fuel dropped by cargo plane to supply U.S. bases in Afghanistan.
