From: Dan Thompson

Subject: 42 Years Ago Tomorrow

The burned out shell of 1st Sergeant Frank Kather's APC that was hit with and RPG. Bob Schooley was the driver and my dear friend. I don't remember the rest of the crew. All the crew survived but Frank Kather was badly burned. God Bless all.

After the battle was over, I requested permission to destroy totally the vehicle with a thermite grenade. Permission was granted and the vehicle was destroyed. I felt it was too dangerous to try to recover the vehicle. We didn’t need anymore casualties.

Thanks to Larry Conley for this picture taken on January 31, 1968 in Saigon. We were working as a Troop that day and were getting our orders to deploy. Little did we know what was waiting for us. In the picture on top of the track with his back to the camera is 1st Lt John Hammond. I am sitting just to his right. Frank Kather is standing just below on the street.............
